This series, Silent Resolve, powerfully captures the resilience, strength, and inner fortitude of young dancers from Danfroc, an Afro-Colombian dance school in Cartagena, Colombia. These children live in some of the city’s most challenging environments; neighbourhoods marked by poverty and violence. Yet, through dance, they find a means of self-expression and strength, embodying a quiet resilience that contrasts with the intensity of their surroundings.

Each portrait reflects not only the children’s heritage and personal struggles but also the sense of determination instilled by their mentor, Teófilo Mercado. Shot in partnership with insightDproject, this series goes beyond mere documentation, giving these young dancers a space to be seen and celebrated in their dignified silence. Their expressions are poised and introspective, almost defying the harsh realities they face, as they convey a profound message of hope, endurance, and quiet strength through their unspoken resolve.
